Wooing
I just saw that Ken Holland is still ‘wooing’ Jiri Hudler. Like to see him back?
He was one of my favourite Wings, so I’d be happy to see him (and his scoring rate!) return to the D. I wonder what it was that made him go in the first place – money I expect.
The Wings need his scoring as goals have been pretty hard to come by. The odds of him returning next year are pretty high at this point since there is precedent to ignore contracts between the NHL & KHL (see Hudler or Radulov and a few more) and a contract has already been awarded via the arbitration process….Hudler gets 5.75 over 2 years when he returns (2.75 in year 1 and 3 mill in year 2). He has been quoted several times in Russian newsprint saying he intends to return to the Wings and wants to next year….so in all likelyhood it happens. The Wings gain a ton of cap space once this season ends so Hudler really becomes a bargain if he can return and perform up to the 25 goal expectations that come with being Hudler. Expect it to happen and expect that most Wings fans (including me) will be happy to see “Happy” Hudler back.
